Welcome to my new blog on federal policy! I am Margo Pedroso, Deputy Director for the Safe Routes Partnership. One of my primary responsibilities is to lobby for the Safe Routes to School program on Capitol Hill. I work to make sure Senators and Representatives are educated about the important work happening all across the country with the assistance of the federal transportation funds.
Like a number of my colleagues, I have the privilege of writing my first post as I prepare to travel on work-related business. I am pretty excited about my trip this week. I’m on my way to sunny Southern California for a staff retreat primarily for our new regional policy managers who work full-time on our Regional Network Project—more about them in a paragraph or two.
In Atlanta, I’m sitting in a conference room with roughly 30 advocates from the public health sector who are here to talk about the work they are doing throughout the country in preventative health.
With Congress in recess this week, we have a short breather. So I’m taking this opportunity to bring you up to speed on where things stand on the transportation bill. The past three weeks have been action-packed—and there’s more to come next week and beyond.

Welcome to the News and Events blog! My name is Brooke Driesse, and I’m the communications manager for the Safe Routes Partnership. I’ve been with the Safe Routes Partnership for four and half years now. It is hard to believe it has been that long, and that the organization has grown from three staff in 2007 to 22 staff today – what a ride!
