SoCal News: Addressing Air Quality in Muscoy

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has released a draft of the Community Emissions Reduction Plan (CERP) for Muscoy, as required by AB617. The CERP is a follow up but separate plan from the Community Air Monitoring Plan (CAMP) and focuses on how to mitigate air quality issues. We encourage the CERP to lift up strategies that put the community in the forefront of the planning process and ensure their priority concerns are addressed, including sensitive receptor areas like schools. The CERP draft also includes a summary of air monitoring assessed in the area during the course of the summer and outlining specific recommend reduction strategies to combat pollution and exposure. As a member on the AB 617 Muscoy Outreach Community Committee and noted in the CERP draft, we are looking forward to partnering with AQMD on actions to increase walkability and active transportation near schools as an air quality improvement measure.  These actions would commence late this year and in early 2020. To read more about the CERP draft plan and comment before the draft is adopted, please visit the SCAQMD site here. SCAQMD hosts AB 617 Muscoy meetings every third Thursday of the month in the evenings which are open to the public and translation is made available.
