Our Salem is a multi-year project to update the Comprehensive Plan, which guides future development for the city. The first phase of the project focused on looking at existing conditions, with a focus on livability and sustainability. That phase resulted in a report card and a greenhouse gas inventory, both of which demonstrate a need for more safe active transportation options, and a shift away from auto travel. The GHG inventory points out that 53% of Salem's GHG emissions are from "mobile sources," 99% of which are cars driving within city limits and less than 1% orignate from local flights at Salem’s airport.

Now, city planners are starting the community-wide visioning phase and your involvement is needed. Consider attending one of the upcoming public workshops, and bring your ideas for how the city should plan for active transportation, affordable housing, access to parks and more!
