With a background in public health, Matt has held various professional roles at the intersection of the built environment and health. His Safe Routes to School career began 14 years ago as an educator for Bicycle Colorado, where he discovered the transformative impact of education, engagement, and collaboration on active transportation programs and projects.
Since then, Matt has contributed to program creation and management across sectors, including food programs, housing, community development, and, most recently, active and sustainable transportation. At the Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University, he conducted research and taught a course in the civil engineering department. His work has focused on small urban and rural communities, emphasizing health, engagement, equity, and collaboration in community development, programs, and infrastructure. Matt applies a public health perspective to everything he does.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys exploring Montana, the West, and the world on his bicycle and skis. He loves cooking, playing cards, and traveling with his partner, Arica. He also works to develop and promote community trail running, mountain biking, and ski mountaineering race series throughout Montana.
